Is diversity only Gender .I think much beyond that .Experience diversity , Age Diversity and cultural/thought diversity to me are equally important.
And if you get that in Gender mix in the team. even better . However it is great to look at examples of biases in our mind which really accentuate how we as a society are . In a recent trip to a safari, someone in the crowd after seeing many animals including deers/ elephants/peacocks and a variety of birds but the tiger was extremely dissapointed.I am not sure that this should be termed as a bias as animals are the bottom of food chain for many and least of world problems. But why is a tiger viewing a bigger achievement than the mighty elephant or the swift deer or the most colorful peacock.
I think it's a world of thought and skill diversity. Everyday if you need to learn you need to have not only your experiences be the teacher but also of others.Where else to find a life to learn than those coming from a different background.
A real example : Compare me with my wife and my sister, Both from same gender.. I would be 60% like my wife and 40% like my sister.. So no two women are alike, nor are siblings.. so it's people at the end of the day. Each one is different .
I am the strongest cheerleader for equal women rights. Proud father of a daughter but would not want my daughter to have benefit over another person's son just because she was born as a girl.. I route for all kinds of inclusivity.
But then we are tackling problems of violence ,bias,unjustnessness and what not? Do I have a solve or just sermons?
I belive good sarcasm is the answer to lot of problems in the world today.If we could be taught sarcasm and light headedness in school , I feel each Gender will come out more rounded and tackle real life problems with ease.Nothing is hard hitting if you are a trampoline! Come bounce off...
